Carlton, Oregon is one of those places.

Tucked into the rolling hills of the North Willamette Valley, Carlton is a small town with an extraordinary connection to wine. Surrounded by vineyards and some of Oregon’s most celebrated wineries, this historic community has quietly become one of the most distinctive wine destinations in the Pacific Northwest.

After years of sharing our love of wine and hospitality at The Bay House, we knew our next chapter needed to be somewhere that felt authentic to who we are. Carlton felt right.

Here, wine isn’t about pretense. It’s about the people who grow it, the people who make it, the stories behind the bottle—and the people you share it with.

That philosophy is at the heart of The Bay House Wine Shop.

Carlton’s historic downtown is wonderfully intimate and walkable, filled with tasting rooms, locally owned businesses, restaurants and people who genuinely love being part of Oregon wine country. Beyond town, vineyard-covered hills stretch across the surrounding countryside, producing the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and other remarkable wines that have earned the Willamette Valley international recognition.

Carlton is “A Great Little Town” — prominently on its official website and city materials.

People say hello. Winemakers tell their stories. Visitors linger a little longer. And there is always another bottle, another vineyard and another conversation waiting to be discovered.

That is exactly the kind of wine experience we want to create at The Bay House Wine Shop.

Our new wine shop brings something a little different to Carlton. Alongside our special emphasis on the extraordinary wines of Oregon and the Willamette Valley, our collection reaches far beyond our own backyard. With more than 2,000 thoughtfully curated selections, you’ll discover wines from Washington and California alongside an Old World foundation featuring France, Italy, Germany and Spain, as well as selections from Australia and other celebrated wine regions.

Some bottles will be familiar.

Others may be wines you’ve never encountered before.

That’s part of the fun.

Come in, settle into The Buzz Room, spend a little time with us, and then wander into The Bottle Room to explore the collection. Ask questions. Discover something unexpected. Find a bottle for Tuesday night or something extraordinary to put away for years.
